Love is Blind

Troy’s University Activities Council (UAC) held a dating game event last Wednesday focused on the personality of students rather than their looks in preparation for Valentine's Day.
The Blind Dating Game sat three or more contestants on one side of a curtain and one single contestant – called the bachelor or bachelorette – on the other side. The bachelor/bachelorette’s job was to ask questions for all contestants on the other side to answer, then pick which one was their favorite, similar to the popular TV show, “Blind Date.”
“It may seem like it would be hard to attract students to this event, but it really sells itself once done right,” said Tayjo Oppong, a senior sports management major from Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. “A lot of people come out because we always do it around the week of Valentine’s Day, and so we make it valentine’s themed.”

The night stayed lighthearted and fun, with most of the contestants not taking it too seriously and not genuinely hoping to find the love of their life. However, one of the contestants said she made a bunch of unexpected friends along the way.
“I really enjoyed that it was just a chance to meet new people,” said contestant Elly Womack. “Even though I didn’t find love it’s entirely okay, because I met a whole bunch of girls back there and they were really sweet.”
This year wasn’t Womack’s first time participating in a dating game though.
“Last time, I did quote-unquote ‘find love,’ because I was a bachelorette, not a contestant, and me and him actually did go on a few dates, and did have a good time together, but it never ended up going any further,” Womack said.
A lot of people showed up, not to participate in the games, but to watch the others play and figure out if love truly is blind.
“It lowkey reminds me of Love is Blind, because you don’t know what you’re going to get and then you get to see their faceexpressions when they finally see each other,” said audience member Ariez Hogan. “It’s just funny to me; I don’t know why.”
