The Troy University Lifting Club is excited to hold its first mock meet Saturday, Oct. 18th at the Trojan Fitness Center.

“Someone should come to this event if they are interested in gaining experience and a feel for competitive lifting while having a supportive and encouraging environment around them,” said President and Treasurer of the Troy Lifting Club Davis Humphrey, a social science-psychology graduate student from Helena, Alabama.

The mock meet is open to Troy students and non-students; beginners and pros. Entry is $10 for competitors and $5 for guests.

Competitors will need to arrive at 8:30 a.m. for weigh-ins and will need to attend a rule briefing at 9 a.m. The competition will begin at 10 a.m.

Participants will compete in three events: squats, bench and deadlift. There will be prizes for Best Overall Male Lifter and Best Overall Female Lifter.

Troy Lifting Club is looking forward to more events in the future.

“To my knowledge this is the first ever mock meet that has been hosted by Troy, so I am excited to build a consistent, well-organized event that can grow and thrive for years to come,” Humphrey said.

The Troy Lifting Club will also be attending a joint practice with Mississippi State and University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama, on Oct. 31.

The club meets at the Trojan Fitness Center on Fridays at 7 p.m. to work out together and encourage one another to meet their goals.

Humphrey said the club is centered around creating a lifting community for Troy students, so students who are interested should join.
