After serving as the interim athletics director since August, Kyle George was dubbed Troy’s 11th athletics director on Saturday. ESPN’s Pete Thamel broke the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, before Troy’s homecoming matchup.

“Kyle George has demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision during his nine years at Troy University, and I am confident he is the right person to lead our athletics program into the future,” said Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. to Troy Athletics. “Kyle stands out as someone who truly embodies the Trojan spirit and understands what it takes to build championship programs.”

Before being named the interim athletics director in the wake of Brent Jones’ departure for Georgia Tech, George was the deputy director of athletics for external relations.

Throughout his tenure with the Trojans, George has overseen many attendance records, promotions and licensing opportunities.

“I’m humbled and honored to receive this opportunity to lead such an incredible team of people,” George said to Troy Athletics. “We have accomplished great things during my time as a Trojan, but I firmly believe our greatest days are yet to come.”

George – a Hoover, Alabama native – has worked at Troy since March 2017. After two years at Troy, he was promoted to executive associate director of athletics for external operations.

The Samford graduate initially served as the associate athletics director for marketing and sales for two years at Troy, introducing promotions such as pregame concerts in Tailgate Terrace.

Prior to arriving at Troy, George worked in various roles at Southern Miss. He worked his way up from a graduate assistant position in 2011 to the associate athletics director of marketing and communications in 2017.

During his time with the Golden Eagles, George worked with the highest-attended games in program history for five sports. He was in charge of all advertising and created a team of students in the marketing department in Hattiesburg, among other things.

George has a wife, Lynne, and two sons who live in Troy.

With soccer head coach Stuart Gore resigning at the end of last month, George won’t have to wait long to make his first hire. With the soccer season wrapping up soon, he will begin a nationwide search for Troy’s next soccer head coach.
