The Troy University IDEA Bank celebrated a landmark achievement after being named Business of the Year at the annual Pike County Chamber of Commerce Banquet.

The award was voted on by chamber members and local businesses. For IDEA Bank Director Lynn George, the recognition was exciting and unexpected.

“It was definitely a huge honor,” George said. “I was excited to learn that we were nominated, but when we found out we won, I was surprised in a good way.

“We were among so many respectable businesses in town.”

Vice President of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce Kaitlyn Williamson explained what made the IDEA Bank a perfect fit for the award.

“The IDEA Bank’s dedication to innovation, entrepreneurship and business education stood out, along with its commitment to creating opportunities for collaboration, mentorship and long-term community development,” Williamson said. “The IDEA Bank strongly reflects the Chamber’s mission to enrich the quality of life in Pike County through community support, cultural engagement and economic development.”

According to George, 2025 marked the IDEA Bank’s most successful year to date.

“It was our biggest year in fundraising and in issuing startup funding,” George said. “We were able to issue almost $20,000 in startup funds to various startups last year, which is the most that we’ve been able to do by a lot.

“That's really thanks to the fundraising; it’s a testament that people have bought into what we're doing.”

At its core, the IDEA Bank exists to support students wherever they are in their entrepreneurial journey. For Jamarion Willie, a sophomore electrical and electronics major and Huntsville, Alabama native, the award doesn’t come as a surprise.

“The IDEA Bank has always shown how much they care about students and innovation, so this award is well deserved,” Willie said. “The IDEA Bank has helped my business grow by giving me access to resources, guidance and opportunities to connect with other creators.

“Being in that environment pushed me to take my business more seriously and believe in what I am building.”

According to George, the IDEA Bank is always available to help students bring their business-related plans to fruition. Students interested in learning more can contact the IDEA Bank at (334) 808-6777.
