Members of Troy’s History Club gathered in Patterson Hall last Wednesday for a night of fun, prizes, friendly competition and history themed jeopardy.

History club is a club open to both history and non-history majors that invites students to fun events and academic events surrounding history. One of the club’s more popular and laid-back meetings, Trivia Night, saw history club members flex their knowledge  and buzz in on trivia questions for a shot at winning prizes.

According to Club Vice President Keira Tessalone, a junior history major from Dothan, Alabama, the event was a success, complete with a great turnout and balanced teams, which made room for true competition.

“We try to balance the amount of academic and fun meetings we do,” Tessalone said. “It gives us a chance to have some fun in the middle of a busy week, instead of just attending another lecture.”

For Haley Duke, a sophomore European history major from Chelsea, Alabama, her favorite part of history club events like Trivia Night is simply being able to get together and have fun with members.

“I love the friendships and connections we make not only in our department, but also with those outside of it,” Duke said. “We’re all great friends and we love to hang out together and we love seeing new faces come out.”

Following suit with a similar sentiment is Carmen Cruz, a sophomore history major from Madison, Alabama, who goes to all meetings that the history club holds.

“History club is a fun and relaxed way to get together with people that are also interested in [history], regardless of their interest,” Cruz said. “I come because I’m in the major, but also because it’s a great group of people.”

According to Tessalone, Matilda Ziegler, the club’s president, deserves praise for her work building the club up and diversifying their activities.

“The events are fun, the people are awesome to be around, and it is truly an amazing organization to be a part of,” Tessalone said.

For those who are interested in attending a history club meeting or event, visit Patterson Hall in room 202 at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday.
