Chancellor Jack Hawkins Jr. will be inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor on Monday, Oct. 24.

According to a press release, “the Academy bestows honor and recognition upon living Alabamians for their outstanding accomplishments and services to the state and the nation.”

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in the old House Chamber of the State Capitol in Montgomery. Gov. Robert Bentley and Michael Warren, chairman of the Academy, will offer opening remarks at the public ceremony.

“This is an honor that belongs, not to me, but to the many colleagues, friends and family with whom I have been privileged to work over the years to serve our state and give all of our great people the education they deserve,” Hawkins said.

Joining Hawkins in the induction ceremony will be Claude B. Nielsen, former CEO of Coca-Cola Bottling Company United. According to Academy’s website, up to 10 members may be inducted per year.
