The Department of Art and Design will have another Haunted House this year. An interest meeting was held Sept. 10 for those who wanted to help out.

“The Haunted House gives us an opportunity as a department to reach out to the community, because we do invite outside community members as well as people who are in the university to come to it,” said Malory Magrath, the assistant administrator for the Department of Art and Design and organizer for the haunted house.

The haunted house takes place within the classrooms of Malone Hall. Each room is decorated with a theme for the event.

Actors for the haunted house are needed, as well as people to help prepare the rooms. Makeup artists, costume designers and extra hands to help move props are greatly appreciated. Students and faculty are also welcome to donate any props they think would assist in creating these spooky themes.

The Department of Theatre and Dance also donates costumes and props to be used in the event. The interest meeting focused on seeing how many people want to get involved and setting a date for the event. More meetings will be held to plan the event and put everything together. These meetings will increase in number closer to the event itself.

“It gives an opportunity for outreach and puts our department in people’s spaces,” Magrath said. “It’s just a fun way for that to happen.”

The previous year, a haunted house was held in conjunction with a fall festival in Malone Hall. However, this year the focus will be on the haunted house itself. This focus should make things easier for everyone involved and improve the event.

The past haunted house had themed rooms such as a scary cabin, a mad science lab, a conjuring-themed room, a morgue and many more. Props for the rooms were made, including a fireplace for the cabin-themed room. Volunteers even created a marionette box for one of the rooms.

Anyone that would like to participate or ask more questions about the event, email mmagrath@troy.edu. Information about the event can also be found on the Department of Art and Design’s Instagram page @troy_art_and_design.
