Last week, Troy University held the annual Greek Week, where fraternities and sororities came  together to have fun and raise  money for their philanthropies.

Numerous events took place during the week, such as Tug-of-War, Greek Sing, the Can Castle Contest, and a Stroll Off. To switch it up, new events were added to the bunch such as Capture the Flag, Campus Feud, and Blindfolded Volleyball.

Mollie Erwin, a sophomore global business major from Wetumpka, Alabama, and President of Chi Omega, said that while everyone wanted to win, they did not let the competition affect their relationships with one another.

“Greek Week means a week of unity among all Greek organizations,” Erwin said.  “We obviously want our organization to win but we’re all participating in the same events for the same reasons with the same cause.

“Especially ones that are philanthropy driven, so when we're donating items to the food pantry or campus kitchens or even donating money for the philanthropy they have chosen, it’s just bonding and unity.”

Erwin said her love for Greek Week goes above and beyond just the events. She enjoys the feeling of making a difference in her community while being surrounded by her sorority sisters.

The winner of the overall Sorority was Chi Omega. The winner of the overall Fraternity was Farmhouse.

Kaylyn Boley, a junior criminal justice major from Madison, Alabama, and the President of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, said that Greek Week activities are not somethings she feels obligated to take part in. Rather, she wants to participate.

“It’s a fun way to be involved on campus and get to meet new people,” Boley said.

Over $13,000 was raised from various events, like t- shirt sales and Greek Sing.
