Troy men’s golf wins its first competition since Spring 2025 on Tuesday at the Argent Financial Classic in Ruston, Louisiana. In the team’s win, the Trojans beat out teams like Louisiana, Texas State and Louisiana Tech.

“I couldn't be more proud of the way these guys have gotten better and better,” said head coach Clay Bounds.

Individually, Jack Lowery shot 6-under overall, with a first round of –1 and a second round of +3. His final round, though, had him dipping to a score of –8, which ties the lowest round in school history. Lowery ended by leading the Trojans in score and tied for third place overall.

Pablo Gracia ended the tournament at –5, hitting one-under for the first day of the competition and 2-under in the latter two rounds. Gracia hit 10 birdies within those latter two rounds in the tournament, finishing under every round of the tournament and tied seventh overall.

Lee Poppell ended third among the Trojans and tied ninth overall. While ending 4-under, Poppell shot an eagle and five birdies during his second round, ending with 5-under for the day. Poppell went 1-over and even on his other rounds and tied for ninth place overall.

Thomas Crane was the only other player to shoot every round under par, with all three ending 1-under, totaling his score overall to be –3. Crane ended up in 11th place individually. Lawton Emblom ended the tournament with 10-over and tying for 55th place.

As a team, the Trojans totaled 846 at the end of the tournament, beating second-place team North Texas by three points. The Trojans also had the highest number of people on their team under par overall, with four of the five players ending under in some way. Bounds discussed that this win was built by last year’s team.

“We were young and inexperienced but knew that the talent and game was there,” Bounds said. “With everyone returning and the addition of Jack Lowery, we now have the team to do things like this.”

Looking forward, the Trojans will compete in Estero, Florida, on Monday and Tuesday for the West Bay Collegiate, which will be held by Florida Gulf Coast. That following week, Monday, Oct. 12 to Wednesday, Oct.14, the Trojans will compete at the Bryson Invitational in Miami, Florida.
