Eyewitness reports have detailed a timeline of events from the Thursday night shooting that killed a 21-year-old Troy University student.
Troy University freshman Carlique Miller was found dead at the Edge at Troy Apartments.
The Troy Police Department is investigating the shooting in conjunction with Troy University Police, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, the Pike County Coroner’s Office, and the District Attorney’s Office. Three people are in custody in connection with the incident, with none identified and none convicted.
According to eyewitnesses, the earliest events of the shooting started around 10:30 p.m. at the Edge at Troy apartments near the 400 building, where people were yelling outside. One resident said that a loud bang alerted her and her roommate to the rest of the noise.
“I'm not sure if it was the gunshot or if it was the car crashing, but it was loud enough for me and my roommate peaked outside our blinds,” said Sophia Hussey, a sophomore psychology major from Phenix City, Alabama. “There was a car in the middle of the road knocked into the tail of a truck, all the doors opened.”

Police towed the car involved in the crime.
Afterward, another resident saw a silver car back into a parking spot before people started running and yelling. Miller was found dead on the grass in front of the 400 building.
“We saw two males get out and run towards our right from our balcony, and they were screaming, ‘My homeboy just got shot,’” said Sydney Parker, sophomore dance major from Hayden, Alabama.
Afterward, Troy Police Department responded and arrived on the scene around 10:41 p.m. According to eyewitnesses, officers asked multiple people on the first floors of the building and neighboring buildings and taped off the parking lot where the shooting took place.
“They were asking where he went, [and] we didn't really know anything, Hussey said. “Then we stayed out there.”
Police officers then transported Miller to the hospital and towed the silver car before clearing and vacating the scene.
Troy University Senior Director of Communications Matt Clower said in a statement Friday morning that the shooting has not caused any active threat to campus safety.
“The University community is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our students,” Clower said. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the student's family and friends as they grieve.”
This is an active investigation. The Tropolitan will give updates as the case continues. If anyone has any information, they are urged to contact Troy Police via telephone (334-566-0500) or email (police@troyal.gov) as well as Crime Stoppers (215-7867).
