Everything lost will be found

I used to never use the lost and found while in grade school. I always kept my items near me, and sometimes I thought it was a little silly. As I grew up, however, I learned this was the opposite. Not only is the lost and found a school concept, but it is a daily, much larger phenomenon.

The earth itself has a way of returning what’s lost back to where it belongs. I first saw this in depth while working in a daycare.

One day, I was outside with the kids, and when we returned inside a little girl told me she dropped her bracelet. I didn’t even know where to start looking for it.

It could have been under the mulch, or in the grass, maybe even in the woods that surrounded the playground.

The next day, as we went back outside, another little girl found the bracelet at a completely different spot than where it was lost.

This phenomenon continued the whole summer while I worked at the program. I lost things like hair ties, earrings and other random items. All of these were found at some point, in completely different spots than where I thought to have lost them.

These stories can align with the starting weeks all of us have upcoming. We are all going to lose a lot. Whether that be small things, like our keys or ID cards, or bigger things like friendships.

But, as we go through these hardships, it is important to remember a couple important things:

1: What you lose, you will find again. What is meant to be will be. Do not stress over anything that is out of your control.

2: There is one thing you need to hold onto and try extremely hard not to lose.

Yourself.

College is a place to better grow yourself. As someone who has lost my sense of self, it takes longer than most things to find, and it is never the same.

Grow. Don’t wilt.

Remember these upcoming weeks that everything will be okay. Everything you lose is a step to something bigger that is meant for you. I know it’s cliche, but it’s true when people say a closed door is another one opened. Don’t stay in a dark room when there is a door open with light beaming from the inside.

So, this week, focus on growing yourself. Go to the welcome week events. Talk to the person who sits in front of you in class. Most importantly, have fun.
