El Rancho Grande - the top spot to try

After learning more about El Rancho Grande and seeing they’ve been open for a little over three weeks, what better way to end things off than with a food review?

Mexican food is one of my favorite cuisines to eat, so I’m excited to talk about what I thought of the newest Mexican restaurant in town.

Before the review, I would like to point out that this is strictly my opinion, which means my review will be coming from my picky eater tendencies and not from a Food Network show judge who’s been cooking for 20-plus years.

First, I’d like to go over the first thing that comes to the table when you go to almost any Mexican restaurant, chips and salsa.

I am a huge fan of chips and salsa. I love a good cheese dip, but I’m always going to go for a bite of salsa first.

El Rancho Grande’s chips and salsa are really good. The chips are thick and crunchy like you’d expect from homemade chips.

The salsa is the perfect combination between smooth and chunky. It’s not too chunky to where you are only picking up salsa chunks with your chips, but it’s also not too smooth to where it feels like salsa is dripping off your chips with every dip.

The salsa, in general, has a really good taste to it. I’m a big fan of cilantro and El Rancho Grande’s salsa has a nice touch of cilantro to it, but it’s not too overbearing for people who might not love the taste.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a picky eater, so I tend to get what some may call “simple” dishes at Mexican restaurants.

I’ve been to El Rancho Grande twice. The first time I got a chicken quesadilla and rice and the second time I got their Pollo Loco, which is grilled chicken on top of a bed of Mexican rice with cheese dip drizzled on it.

I thought the chicken quesadilla was good. I feel like you can never go wrong with a quesadilla.

However, the Pollo Loco was, by far, my favorite thing I’ve had from the restaurant. I tend to like that dish at any Mexican restaurant I go to, but I’d have to say that El Rancho Grande serves that dish the best.

It’s a pretty simple dish, but the flavors from it were the best part. The grilled chicken wasn’t grilled to burnt crispness, the cheese dip is really good, and the rice was fluffy and flavorful.

The food gets a thumbs up from me and so does the customer service.

The first time I went to the restaurant, it wasn’t busy. The second time I went was at prime lunchtime, so it was really busy and loud.

However, the employees were very nice and seemed to be pleased I was showing up as a willing customer ready to eat.
