A new Mexican restaurant has made its way to Troy. It’s open for business and is ready to serve hungry local residents.
El Rancho Grande, located in the former Santa Fe building on Highway 231, is the new Mexican eatery intown. After Santa Fe announced it was closing, the restaurant was being renovated for a couple of months before its grand opening
Now, the restaurant has been open for a little over three weeks. The employees are taking note of the business flow in the city.
“We kind of know how many people are going to come in, what days are going to be more busy,” said Alejandro Espinosa, the general manager of El Rancho Grande. “It’s hard to tell with the fair, the long [Veteran’s Day] weekend and all the things happening this past week, but we’re taking notice as we go.” The restaurant is the product of a family business. The family loves getting to run a business together, and they love getting to bring their employees in as their family, too.
“We try to do better for our families, but we take care of our employees too,” Espinosa said.
“My slogan with my employees would be ‘come in, take care of me and I’ll take care of you, beyond a worker.’
“I’m always here for them as long as they’re taking care of me too.”
With the employees of the restaurant taking care of each other, they also want to take care of the customers who come in. “Our main goal is to have customers come in, eat, have fun and remember this place for a good experience,” Espinosa said. “If they don’t have a good experience, they can always come talk to me.”
“I don’t want anyone to come in and leave hungry and mad -- I want you to leave happy and full.”
Several customers said they left El Rancho Grande will big smiles and full bellies.
“I think the restaurant is very nice, pretty big,” said Tiffani Williamson, a Birmingham, Alabama resident visiting Troy for a weekend. “The prices are affordable; the service is nice, and the food is pretty good as well --I definitely recommend this place.” There are multiple Mexican restaurants in Troy as one student pointed out.
“I’m not the biggest fan of having five or six Mexican restaurants in Troy, but [El Rancho Grande] is a little different -- a bit bigger and a different atmosphere,” said Chandler Mayo, a junior sports management major from Alabaster, Alabama.
For El Rancho Grande, it’s not about the local competition. It’s about giving customers a good time.
“We’re not here to do any harm to anybody, but as far as competing, at the end of the day, the customers determine the winner,” Espinosa said. “We take pride in our quality of food, and we strive for the best service possible.”
For people outside of the Wiregrass area, there is another El Rancho Grande location in Wetumpka, Alabama.
