DKE suspended, under investigation for possible hazing

Troy University’s Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE) has been suspended on “rule violations… and possible hazing,” effective Monday, Sept. 23, according to Herbert Reeves, Dean of Student Services.

This is the second fraternity suspension in less than a month.

DKE is currently under investigation by the Dean of Student Services and the Office of Fraternity Affairs, and they will remain suspended until the investigation concludes “by the end of the week,” Reeves said.

The possible hazing comes from “violation of alcohol policies and verbal abuse,” Reeves said.

“We are extremely disappointed to receive a second report of rules violations by a Greek organization this semester,” a university statement said. “Troy University is committed to maintaining high standards of conduct and safety among campus organizations, and groups found in violations of rules will face appropriate punishment.”

The matter was brought to the university’s attention when a national DKE hazing hotline was contacted. DKE’s national leadership then contacted the university.

There is currently no criminal investigation underway.

Reeves said he is unsure how many students are involved at the moment, but administration is “talking to all members and leadership” to get to the bottom of the matter.

“Our hope is to work with this, work with the chapter, work with the individuals and strengthen the Greek system,” Reeves said.
