Coach Meade signs a home run extension

Fresh off the Trojans winning their first Super Regional and making the trip to Omaha, Troy baseball’s head ballcoach Skylar Meade signed a Sun Belt leading-extension. This agreement ties him to Troy for the next four years with a fifth-year option.

According to Kendall Rogers, co-owner of D1 Baseball, associate head coach Ben Wolgamot also got a record extension.

Troy University Director of Athletics Kyle George said it was important to ensure that Troy retained Meade and rewarded him for his success.

“Skylar means the world to our program,” George told the Troy Messenger. “He is a person that has brought a ton of energy and life to our program, and we are really excited about the trajectory we remain on right now.” Prior to landing in Troy, Meade was a star pitcher for Louisville before bouncing around South Carolina, Michigan State, Middle Tennessee and Eastern Illinois as a coach. During this stretch of coaching, he saw 35 players get drafted to the MLB. His first season as a coach at Troy saw the team win 32 games and make the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. He also swept Indiana from the Big Ten in this first season.

In 2023, Meade launched the Trojans to a 40-win season for the first time since 2018, and a berth in the Tuscaloosa Regional, where the Trojans beat Boston College 11-10. This season also saw his first win over an SEC program in Auburn.

In 2024, Meade led the Trojans to an end of year ranking at No. 21 in the country, the highest since 2013. With 109 wins, he also set the record for the Troy coach with the most wins in their first three seasons.During the 2024 season, Meade led the team to wins over Indiana, No. 18 Louisiana and a sweep over No. 13 Coastal Carolina. In 2025, the Trojans got their first preseason ranking at No. 25. This same year saw the Meade led team win a big game against No. 15 Mississippi State. Under his watch, five Trojans got drafted, the most since 2007.

Last season, big time wins were accomplished over No. 8 Georgia, Rutgers, Maryland, No. 12 Southern Miss, No. 17 Alabama, No. 8 Florida, Miami, Little Rock and number 18 Ole Miss. Additionally, Troy had the highest out of conference schedule ranking in the country. Meade led his team to a domination of Little Rock in the Troy Regional, with a run differential of 19 compared to Little Rocks’ four. Troy was also the second Sun Belt team to represent the conference at Omaha, after Coastal Carolina from the priorseason . After last season, Troy reached its highest ranking ever at number 6 nationally.

In the 2027 season, Meade will be the highest paid Sun Belt coach and aims to lead the Trojans to continued success in the postseason.
