Circle K International made and delivered dog toys for the Pike County Animal Shelter.

Circle K International saw a need for toys for the pets in the Pike County Animal Shelter, and they set out to make a difference. Circle K International is a service-based organization that focuses on serving surrounding communities.

“We take pride in living to serve and loving to serve our surrounding communities,” said Myah Wallace, chair for Circle K International and a senior global business marketing major with a minor in psychology from Atlanta.

Circle K International President Devin Watkins got in touch with HSPC and asked what they were in need of. After hearing that they could use more pet toys, members of Circle K International researched the best way to make dog toys and found out that using old fabric was the way to go.

“It benefits the Pike County Animal Shelter because they were able to relocate the money they originally had that was going to be spent towards toys and were able to use it for better reasons such as food, shelter, materials etc.,” said Joyre Spencer, vice president for Circle K International and a senior sports management major from Birmingham, Alabama.

The old fabrics used came from old T-shirts members had and some from the salvation army. Circle K International was able to produce 35 braided dog tug-of-war toys from these shirts.

“It’s amazing feeling to give back to the animal shelter,” Spencer said. “The smiles on their faces were like no other, and to show that the community that Circle K International cares about their pets is overall an amazing experience.”

To stay up to date on Circle K International events, you can follow them on Instagram @troycki. Events happening this month include a scary movie night, a teacher supplies donation drive and a cancer appreciation event. All dates will be announced at a later time, and flyers will be posted around campus.

Wallace, who has been a member since her sophomore year, encourages students to join in.

“I encourage everyone to join if you’re looking to find a community on campus,” Wallace said. “We are more than an organization; we're family.”
