The Troy University Police Department (TUPD) has arrested and charged a suspect for last Saturday’s campus shooting.
TUPD has announced the arrest and charging of a suspect with Assault in the Second Degree and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with Saturday’s shooting. The announcement came in a press release sent out on Friday afternoon by Andy Ellis, Troy University’s director of communications.
The release identified the suspect as a 16-year-old male from Troy. He is believed to have fired the shot that hit one female student and left her with a foot injury.
He is currently being held in the Pike County Jail following his arrest on Friday morning.
Officers from TUPD, City of Troy Police Department and the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force made the arrest after a joint investigation between the departments.
“The knowledge and years of experience of the Troy Police Department team tipped the scales in our favor and helped us identify a suspect,” said Troy University Police Chief George Beaudry in the press release.
The victim of the shooting has been treated for her injury and has since been released from the hospital.
