Members of Troy’s Psychology Club sold sweet treats for a sweet purpose in their recent bake sale, with profits going to the Child Advocacy Center (CAC).

Students were able to choose from a variety of tasty options, including donuts, cupcakes, cookies and brownies.

“I think it's good to just get out and do something,” said Justin Hendrickson, a junior psychology major from Enterprise, Alabama. “We don't help them directly, but we give the money to the people who can help them."

The child advocacy center is a facility where abused children can receive free support services such as forensic interviewing, counseling and family advocacy.

"We love community involvement, and we like spreading awareness in the community,” said Director of the CAC Kaley Green. “Things like the bake sale help to do those things."

Events like the bake sale help the CAC continue to offer services free of charge. These events also increase awareness about the center.

"My favorite part is to talk to people about the child advocacy center and tell them about it and also do treats and stuff for the kids,” said Soleil Copeland, a sophomore criminal justice major from Dothan, Alabama.

Picking up a sweet treat allowed students to support their community.

"It helps to involve not only our community, but it brings in everybody because the university is such a huge part of our community,” Green said.

"One of the things I've learned being at Troy university is part of being a good, if not a great student, is it's always nice to give back to your community," said Kalibb Jackson, a senior criminal justice major from Mobile, Alabama.

With April being Child Abuse Awareness month, more activities will be aimed at benefitting the CAC. Specifically, Kappa Delta will have a 5K event where 80% of profits will go to the CAC.

More fundraisers are set to happen in April as well. Follow the @troypsychologyclub for more on its events on Instagram, as well as @troykd on Instagram for more information about the 5K.
