Boyer and Blackmon are both involved in campus culture and said they wanted to share their love for Troy and the campus by running for Trojan Pride.

“I fell in love with Troy immediately because of the people,” said Blackmon, a junior nursing major from Wilcox County, Alabama. “Troy definitely helped me find who I am and places that I can thrive, so I felt like it was fitting.”

Blackmon is the president of M.I.S.S Elite Society, a member of the UAC, a member of the Black Student Union and a campus kitchen civic scholar. Her campaign was based off Alexander Hamilton, taking inspiration from real-life history and the popular musical, “Hamilton.”

Boyer is involved with SGA, Trojan Ambassadors, Freshman Forum, a brother of Farmhouse fraternity and he was an Impact Leader. Boyer mentioned he feels lucky to have a supportive family and friends, who were an inspiration for him to run.

“I will say the biggest inspiration for me was my cousin, Jayden McQueen – she won Miss Trojan Pride last year,” said Boyer, a junior physical education major from Crestview, Florida. “It was very surreal for me, because she did pretty much the same things as me.”

During the pep rally, both Blackmon and Boyer said they felt joy, shock and excitement as they were announced as the winners, and both mentioned their friends cheering them on and supporting them.

“I was honestly in a state of shock,” Blackmon said. “I was still clapping, and then I realized, ‘Oh wait, I’m Morgan Blackmon.’”

Boyer expressed a similar state of shock.

“There was so much joy and happiness,” Boyer said. “So many different emotions going through my head.”

Boyer and Blackmon both said they look up to their predecessors, stating that they admire them. While Boyer and Blackmon didn’t know each other before running for Mr. and Miss Trojan Pride, they are both excited to get to know each other and are already forming a friendship.

Despite their heavy involvement on campus, Boyer and Blackmon have said Troy has helped greatly with their time management skills, making running for Trojan Pride plausible.

“I would say I’m looking forward to growth,” Blackmon said. “I’m sure this will open doors for me to meet different students and gain more confidence.”

Boyer wants to thank his family, his friends, his brotherhood and his mentor, Kerrie Hill. Blackmon would like to thank her friends and family.
