Troy’s University Activities Council held a roller-skating night outside of Hawkins Hall on the side lot last Wednesday night. Although the night was chilly, students overlooked it for an enjoyable night of skating.
UAC skate nights are normally held inside with black lights for the neon effect. However, this skate night was held outside, and the neon lights shone just as bright after the sun went down.

Students take on roller skaing outside while listening to music.
“This event is just for students to come out, roller-skate, listen to music and have a good time,” said Jamie Parker, a junior nursing major from Millbrook, Alabama, and the president of UAC. “It’s just a good vibe to bring to campus during homecoming week.”
Students enjoyed the uniqueness of the event.
“It’s something different that not a lot of organizations do or think of,” said Mackenzy Rhea, a sophomore business administration major from Crestview, Florida. “It’s just a great way to get students out and doing something they’ve never done before. It’s a new thing to experience.”
Roller-skating nights tend to bring in lots of students.
“Last time we did roller skating, we had a good amount of people who came,” Parker said. “We also just wanted to have a good, upbeat energy for Homecoming week.”
Students had to fill out a waiver before receiving a pair of skates. Then, students could skate on a portable, neon rink. DJ Redd offered entertainment for the night, playing popular hits for everyone to skate to.
UAC frequently does events throughout the year, including casino nights, silent discos and movie nights. Any student can go to UAC meetings if they have an idea for an event.
“They’re welcoming, and they love taking everybody’s opinions and ideas into making the events happen,” said Ariez Hogan, a freshman exercise physiology major from Calhoun, Georgia. She also is a member of UAC.
To be a part of UAC, students must attend meetings and offer to help when the Exec Board need hands for events.
“To set up for this event, we got here a little bit earlier just to make sure everything was ready for everyone to have fun,” Rhea said.
“I encourage every student that sees this to go out to events, be uncomfortable, live life and come to UAC meetings,” Parker said.
UAC meetings are Monday nights at 5 p.m. in Room 119 in the Trojan Center. To keep up with UAC events, follow @troyuac on Instagram for regular updates.
