Troy University’s Activities Council (UAC) held a bracelet-making event themed around Taylor Swift in HAL Hall last Wednesday.
The event offered all kinds of bracelet-making materials, such as different kinds of strings, beads and charms for the bracelets. It was open for all students to come in, make bracelets and meet new people.
“This is a do-it-yourself event,” said UAC Coordinator of Campus Events Altwayne Bedward, a senior communications major from Westmoreland, Jamaica. “You can make a bracelet, put whatever you want on it and just relax while listening to Taylor Swift.”
Most participants looked forward to making bracelets and hanging out with friends.
“I’m looking forward to cute bracelets,” said UAC President Jamie Parker, a junior nursing major from Millbrook, Alabama. “I hope people make new friends while going around and asking for supplies or asking to see their bracelets.
“It creates a community on campus.”
Students came to make bracelets of all kinds and for lots of different reasons. Some made bracelets with their name on them, while others were there for the Taylor Swift aspect of the night.
“I’m a big ‘Swiftie,’” said Abby Gilliland, a junior hospitality and tourism management major from Alexander City, Alabama. “I love everything about her.
“I even went to the Eras Tour. I’m excited to just make something of my own to wear or put in my car.”
Swift’s biggest hits played at the event, including “You Belong With Me,” “…Ready For It?” and “cardigan.”
“When we did a poll, there seemed to be a lot of ‘Swifties’ on campus,” Bedward said. “It seemed like a fitting thing to do.”
UAC offers many events throughout the year for students to attend. Students are able to find others with common interests and connect with one another. These events happen almost every Wednesday for students.
UAC offers annual silent discos, casino nights, movie nights, events with Camp Butter and Egg and more throughout the semester.
“Events like these help students to network,” Parker said. “A bunch of people who don’t know each other come together and make friends.
“I hope for people to look forward to coming to these events every week.”
UAC holds meetings every Monday at 5 p.m. in the Trojan Center, room 119. At the meetings, Parker introduces the events to the committee members and how they can execute the events. Students can join one of the many committees that make up UAC.
“You can be a part of our marketing team or anything you want to help benefit UAC,” Bedward said. “Just come and share your ideas.”
“I encourage students to come out to every event on Wednesdays,” Parker said. “All food and drinks are free.
“I also encourage students to come to the meetings and get involved.”
