Troy University’s Activities Council (UAC) gathered students on the field at Veterans Memorial Stadium last Wednesday for a “How to Train Your Dragon” movie night.
This was the second time the UAC brought students to the Vet for one of its movie nights, the first time being earlier this semester. One student said they enjoyed the opportunity to be on the field for a non-athletic event.

“I’ve had the experience of being in the stands with the students and on the sidelines with my friends on gameday, and it’s a cool feeling being down here on times other than gameday,” said Rocecil Osborne, a dance line member and junior theatre and dance major from Luverne, Alabama. “I came here because I really love this movie, and me and my friends wanted to just come out here and bond.”
The movie shown was the recently released live action version of “How to Train Your Dragon,” and the selection of the movie was left in the hands of the students. The UAC decided on three options for students to pick from and posted them on their Instagram story, allowing students to vote on which one would be played.
UAC president Jamie Parker, a senior nursing major from Millbrook, Alabama, said the goal was to get as many students involved as they could.
“It’s good to come out to events and be involved on campus,” Parker said. “You can come to events for a free mind and headspace, or you can come to meet new people.”
Another student that attended the movie night shared similar sentiments toward being social and involved around campus.
“I think being healthy and having a vibrant social life outside of the classroom is almost as important to your success in college as paying attention in class,” said Natalie Elliott, a freshman music major from Dothan, Alabama, who said they were pleased with the number of opportunities to socialize that Troy University offers. “You can always have more, but I would not say that there’s a shortage.
“It doesn’t feel boring on campus or anything like that.”
Osborne felt similarly, adding that the prevalence of these sorts of opportunities doesn’t mean the university should stop trying to expand the social scope on campus.
“I feel like if we had a little bit more events like this one, it would actually help the people come out and be more socialized,” Osborne said.
UAC will announce its next smaller events on its Instagram @troyuac, and the next big event will be the UAC Casino Night, which the members of UAC have begun planning.
