Troy’s National Pan-Hellenic Council held Greek Night: Basketball Edition in Wright Hall Gym on Friday for a night of competition and fun.

Students from each NPHC organization came out to support and watch the game from the bleachers to the walls. All students were invited.

“It’s been a really fun night here,” said NPHC President Shania Brunson, a junior exercise science major from Tuskegee, Alabama, who is a member of Troy’s Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. “We got the music going, and we just want to have people out here and join us.

“Everyone’s passionate about what's going on and being involved, so I’m just having a lot of fun and enjoying myself.”

Three rounds were played throughout the night, with Troy’s Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. winning the first round, Troy’s Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. claiming the second round and a group of students who signed up to play the game for the third round.

“I'm walking around, meeting new people, taking pictures, watching everyone's facial expressions, watching the game and watching the players who are planning the game,” said Khelsea Stone, a sophomore nursing major from Montgomery, Alabama, who is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. “I'm just overall having a really good time.

“It’s going to be a super fun and exciting semester ahead.”

This event was the first social event of the semester. Looking ahead, the organizations within NPHC plan to hold more  educational events for the student body, such as the self-defense class that was held on Wednesday night in Patterson Hall 103.

“We just want to show everybody the Greek Union and bring everybody out to learn more about it than what they see on social media,” said Troy’s Omega’s President Jalen Cunningham, a senior exercise science major from Enterprise, Alabama. “We chose to do basketball first, because a lot of people like to come out and hoop.

“Moving forward, I just hope we show a positive way of showing up for students in a better way.”
