For National Pan-Hellenic Council Week, Troy’s Divine 9 organizations held a week of events for all students to attend. One of those events was Field Day Freestyle at the band field last Thursday night.

Everyone had the opportunity to play a variety of classic childhood games, partake in snacks and dance to music.

“One of the best moments was the kickball game that brought out everyone’s playful side,” said NPHC Public Relations Shania Brunson, a junior exercise science major from Tuskegee, Alabama, who is also a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. “My favorite part was when we played a new game called Team Runner where the goal of the game was for my team and me to work together to reach the other end while being inside a tarp-like structure.

“We had a great time and shared a lot of laughs as we all put in our best effort to get to the end of the field. It was a day to remember, full of great memories and a strong sense of community.”

Other games the night consisted of were a two-legged race, where pairs were racing across the field while trying their best to keep it together and a few intense rounds of tug-of-war with teams pulling their hardest with the determination to win.

“My favorite part of the event was during the last tug of war match when all the D9 sororities and fraternities teamed together to play against each other,” said Madyson Smith, a junior American sign language major from Mobile, Alabama, who is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. “I greatly appreciate the students that did show up as NPHC week is the one week where the entirety of the school's NPHC gets attention as well as allowing students a place to ask questions and meet us.”

Troy’s NPHC organizations plan to hold more engaging events in the near future.

“It's important for NPHC organizations to come together and spend time with each other because we are all going for the same goal, which is to do better in our community and have scholastic standards,” said Qwien Mason, a senior exercise science major from Birmingham, Alabama, who is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. “While each organization can do its own thing, it sends the representation to campus that all D9 organizations can actually do stuff together and have a good time at the end of the day.”

“NPHC is committed to unity, service and student engagement on campus,” Smith said. “We are always looking for ways to collaborate and create meaningful experiences for students.

“We welcome all students to attend our events, learn more about our organizations and join us in creating positive experiences.”
