Troy’s National Pan-Hellenic Council and University Activities Council partnered to put on their annual Step Tease at the amphitheater last Wednesday night. The infamous DJ Red worked the DJ booth while Funny Maine, a local comedian, served as the emcee.

Students were invited for a night of music, energy and strolls.

“We all had a great time, and we love doing this annual event for UAC,” said Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. President Acacia Jones, who is a senior nursing major from Phenix City, Alabama. “There's a lot of diversity that comes out, and we love to be able to not only represent our chapter but also represent Troy University in a great light.

“Especially at a predominantly white institution (PWI), events like this are needed. We love to be able to have Greek unity together and to all come together since we all support each other.”

The dance team from Troy’s Department of Theatre and Dance started off the night. Due to different reasons and timing complications, not all the Divine Nine organizations were able to perform. However, this did not stop the show.

One by one, each organization got in front of the crowd and displayed their steps, information about the organization’s history and signature strolls.

“We came to the Step Tease and got loose, got real funky and gave the crowd a show,” said Jalen Cunningham, an Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. member who is a senior physical education major from Enterprise, Alabama. “It is important for all of us to come together and do events like these because that's something we live by.

“Most of us stand for the same thing in regard to scholarships, opportunities and uplifting. If we're not together showing people how to do it, then it'll never be done.”

Other Greek organizations outside of NPHC were also in attendance for the event.

“It was so awesome and so fun,” said Molly Snow, a Kappa Delta member who is a senior exercise science major from Millbrook, Alabama. “The emcee was funny, and everyone did a great job.

“It’s important to have unity and community on campus with all of the Greek organizations.”

By the end of the night, all of the D9 organizations in attendance performed their strolls together in the crowd while student interactions continued.

“I feel like NPHC gives students of different backgrounds the opportunity to come and see what they have to offer,” said UAC Vice President Tayjo Opponh-ADJEI, who is a senior sport management major from Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. “We partner with them, and the Department of Theatre and Dance, to basically put on a show, give students something to see at the start of the semester and provide a setup for what's to come for the rest of the year.”

Looking ahead, UAC and NPHC intend to put on another event together for the students to attend and enjoy during Homecoming week.
