Troy baseball stars enter the 2026 MLB Draft

After an impressive 2026 campaign, capped off by an appearance in the College World Series after playing host to a Super Regional and winning the Gainesville Regional, , Troy baseball had four of its top players drafted in this year's Major League Baseball Draft.

The first player off the board was shortstop Aaron Piasecki, who was drafted by the Houston Astros in the eighth round with the 241st overall pick. Piasecki's pick is the highest a Troy player has been drafted since Brandon Lockridge went in the fifth round in 2018 to the San Diego Padres.

Piasecki was instrumental to the Trojans’ success, with a .337 batting average, 10 home runs, 48 RBIs and 62 runs on the season behind the plate, as well as a .963 fielding percentage with 117 putouts. Piasecki also earned all-Sun Belt and Sun Belt All-Tournament honors.

Following Piasecki was pitcher Benjamin Stubbs, who joined Lockridge in the Padres system with the ninth round, 275th overall pick. The southpaw had a 5.12 ERA in his lone season in the wiregrass, with 87 strikeouts and only 59 runs allowed.

Another left-handed pitcher, Zach Crotchfelt, was drafted in the 14th round with the 420th overall pick to the New York Mets. Crotchfelt earned 81 strikeouts with only 29 runs and 66 hits allowed, finishing the year with a 3.49 ERA and a spot on the Sun Belt All-Tournament and Gainesville Regional All-Tournament teams.

Finishing up the Trojan quartet was right-handed pitcher Dylan Alonso, who went to the Kansas City Royals in the 16th round with the 479th overall pick. Alonso had a 5.11 ERA with 60 strikeouts in the year.

With four Trojans drafted, this creates the most in a single MLB Draft since 1999 and only the sixth time in program history that four or more Troy players have gone in the same draft.

The historic College World Series run for the Trojans bumped up the draft stock for the players, and not just for the ones who went this year. Jimmy Janicki, who will return for one more season, is currently ranked No. 35by Perfect Game for 2027 MLB prospects while also being projected as a first round pick.

The Trojans are slated to go toe-to-toe with the Gators in a fall ball matchup in Pensacola, Florida. Troy and Florida will square off on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
