To get reacquainted with new and returning students for the 2025 fall semester, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. put together a hangout gathering in the upstairs Trojan Center Thursday night.
This event was also part of Welcome Week’s itinerary as a “Patio Party at the Tipton.”
“The whole point of this event was to invite everyone out to have a good and fun time socializing and dancing,” said Jamarien Vickers, a Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. member who is a junior cyber security major from Montgomery, Alabama. “This event gives students the chance to take a break and have a good time.”

The members of Troy Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. perform their stroll in upstairs Trojan Center during the Pretty Cold Night Out event.
A live DJ played a variety of music throughout the night, including rhythm and blues, hip-hop, rap and soul. Students were even given the opportunity to make song requests.
“I love the Alphas and the Nupes, so I came to support and dance a little bit,” said Norilan Womack, a sophomore marketing major from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. “I definitely want to attend more of their events because, as an African American, I want to continue to support the Divine Nine.
“A lot of people like to look at the negative of African American organizations, but this just shows that we're more than that, so I'm excited to see what’s next.”
While on the topic of the D9s, Troy’s other National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations made an appearance, as well. Every now and again during the event, students formed a circle in the middle of the upstairs Trojan Center to let the D9s in attendance perform their strolls.
“As a member of the NPHC, I’ve seen that there's a stress and need on us wanting to do collaborations with each other,” said Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Chapter President and NPHC Chaplain Isaiah Thomas, who is a senior global business concentration entrepreneurship major from Ozark, Alabama. “Honestly, it’s a big deal just seeing all the D9 organizations come together and just do some events with each other since it shows that anybody can do anything when they put their mind to it.
“We want to continue to stay active because it’s so easy to just get into a fraternity or sorority and stay stagnant.”
As far as future events are concerned, the Alphas and Kappas plan to work together again to put on another event for the students as well as the Troy community. They also intend to partner with other organizations for the same cause.
“Most people think NPHC is divided, but it’s actually filled with intention and unity, so, it's always good to show unity in different aspects of whether there's a party, a regular event or whatever it is,” said Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Vice Polemarch said Xavier Harris, who is a junior general business major from Wetumpka, Alabama. ““There's going to be some more things coming up since we’re trying to cook up a few things,” Thomas said. “We can't disclose too muchk but just stay tuned.”
