Trojan Threads stocks for Troy football

As football season gets underway at Troy University, Trojan Threads is stocking its shelves with new gear for students and fans looking to show their Trojan pride.
Since opening in 2023, owner David Smith said the store has grown by giving customers another affordable option for Troy merchandise.
“It’s come a long way since we opened in 2023, having another option for students to buy something affordable,” Smith said. “It’s important to us to have the family of four being able to walk in and not break the bank.”
Keeping up with what students want is a big part of deciding what makes it onto the shelves.
“The student population at Troy influences the things that we carry quite a bit, actually,” Smith said. “I reach out to a lot of my close friends who either teach at Troy or once went to Troy, ask for their input on what they think would sell or I post on social media to see what people think.”
That feedback also extends beyond college students. Trojan Threads carries toddler apparel, which Smith said has become a popular part of the store’s inventory.
“Getting to have my hand on the pulse of what people are buying, doing research, I look at those things,” Smith said. “I consider kids’ stuff as well. We are some of the only people that carry toddler apparel, and that’s been flying off the shelves.
“Getting to get feedback from students and the community is absolutely critical for my business.”
For customers, shopping in person can also make a difference when choosing what to wear on game day.
“One thing that makes shopping here different from shopping at other stores online is that you can feel the material, texture, make sure you get the right size,” Smith said. “I think it is important that we have a presence; you can walk into a brick and mortar and be offered quality items.”
That in-person experience becomes even more important as football season brings students and fans out for games.
“We try to update our inventory every football season,” Smith said. “We’ve brought in a lot for our first game and will bring in more for every following game.”
New polos, additional football-branded shirts and camo mock-necks are among the items available this season.
The store also adjusts its hours around game days. During game weeks, Trojan Threads is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on game days from 8 a.m. until kickoff.
With new merchandise arriving throughout the season, students can expect the shelves to keep changing as Trojan Threads works to stay in step with what Troy fans want to wear.
