Senior Farewells: Ansley Miller

How do I write a farewell for the best four years of my life? Let’s start at the beginning — with The Tropolitan.

I joined the Trop my freshman year as a photographer, excited but unsure of where it might lead. I just knew I loved capturing moments. I had no idea then how much those moments — and the people behind them — would shape who I am today. From running around campus covering some of the most fun, meaningful events, to eventually stepping into my role as photography editor, the Trop gave me a space to learn, to lead, to create and to connect. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and filled my life with friendships that became like family.

Through my work with the Trop, I didn’t just take photos — I captured history, created lasting memories, and built the confidence that comes from embracing new opportunities.

Troy University has opened so many doors for me, and I am forever grateful for every opportunity I was given. I’m especially grateful for the professors and staff who truly invested in us, not just as students, but as individuals. Their unwavering support helped us grow, feel seen and feel celebrated in ways I never thought possible. That kind of care is so rare — and it’s something I know I would never have experienced at a bigger university.

Troy quickly became more than just a school to me. It became a second home — a place where I felt supported, challenged and encouraged every step of the way. Choosing Troy was one of the best decisions I’ve made, and the impact of this community on my life will stay with me forever.

Troy will always hold a special place in my heart, not just because of my own experiences, but because it’s also a part of my family’s story. My mom is a proud alumna, and carrying on her legacy here has been an honor.

As I step into the next chapter — earning my aPHR certification through HRCI, starting my career in human resources and eventually pursuing my master’s degree once I gain more hands-on experience — I carry with me everything Troy and the Trop have taught me. I’ve become a different person along the way: more confident, more capable and more ready to lead. The experiences, the leadership growth and the lessons I’ve learned here have shaped who I am today. The friendships and memories I’ve made will always be a part of me, and I know they’ll guide me as I continue to grow.

Thank you, Troy. Thank you, Trop. You truly have impacted my life over the last four years. No matter where life takes me, a piece of my heart will always be here.

Once a Trojan, always a Trojan.
