From singing Lauryn Hill to dancing to Usher, students engaged in a friendly game of aux wars that was put on by Humbled Hearts last Wednesday. Humbled Hearts Inc. is a community service organization in Troy.
Aux Wars is a strategic game in which players battle to see who chooses and sings the best songs. Students were split into two different groups with different categories and artists to choose from as they picked a song from each category. The teams were “Trojans” versus “We Troy,” and the categories ranged from 90s versus 2000s to Disney. For each round, the teams had the option to earn points by performing the song together or by letting one person from the group sing the song.
“We wanted to start off with something with music to just grab college students' attention and encourage them to come out for some fun,” said Ashirya Timmons, a member of Humble Hearts who is a junior nursing major from Thomasville, Alabama. “This really did allow students to work together and talk to each other while making new friends.
“It’s important to hold events like these so that students aren’t cooped up in their rooms or feel like they don't have any way to make new friends, to branch out and to put themselves out on campus. Having events like this one brings everyone together.”
There were four judges and one tie breaker, when needed, for the aux wars. The judges gave out points based on participation, energy and song choice.
Some of the artists that the group chose were TLC, Monica, Erykah Badu, SWV, Megan Thee Stallion, Tevin Campbell, Xscape, Nicki Minaj, Destiny’s Child, Jon B and Brandy.
“I felt great energy and had fun at this event with my love for music and for everyone who participated,” said TK Davis, a freshman graphic design major from Montgomery, Alabama.
By the end of the night, team “We Troy” officially won the aux wars.
While this event was for students to come together and enjoy a night of music, it was also a time for the organization to officially introduce itself. service, and I want other students to have the opportunity to experience community service on and off campus while also having a good time,” said Humble Hearts President Hayle Jackson, who is a senior accounting major from Jackson, Alabama.
