Glue, scissors and markers were in full use last Thursday as students created artwork at Troy’s International Art Center.

As the final days wind down for the exhibitions by Douglas Pierre Baulos and Jennifer McCohnell, the gallery was transformed into a creative field for students to engage in a hands-on craft activity using materials made by Baulos himself.

“I enjoy looking at art,” said Carla Garcia, a sophomore elementary education major from Laredo, Texas. “I like seeing all the colors and how they blend, so that's exactly what I went for with my art.

“I wanted to blend in all the colors, so they could make different patterns. I just like nature, so I also added a few animals. After being here, I feel like Troy should have more options for events than what they regularly do.

“I like what the IAC does with the different events, and I feel like it's different than what Troy usually has.”

Students were also able to enjoy a variety of options in cookies, lemonade and water during the event. Some of the flavors included chocolate, M&M and macadamia.

“The macadamia cookie was my favorite,” said Kam Dixon, a senior computer science major from Mobile, Alabama. “As soon as I bit into it, it was just flavors everywhere and just perfect.

“As for my art piece, I used animals, because they symbolize friendship and longevity. Art allows us to express how we feel and think on a daily basis through drawing and coloring. So, it makes me happy.”

After creating their piece of art, students were able to take their creations with them or leave it for the IAC to keep. Some students even took pictures with their artwork to share the memories.

“I made an abstract, little art piece,” said Madison Burgess, a freshman biomed major from Dothan, Alabama. “I got some blues, blacks and a lot of light, beige colors while also doing some gold and silver throughout.

“I also came out for cookies, because I really like cookies.”
