Students have Good Times bowling with UAC

Students put a pin in their schoolwork and took a bowling trip off campus with the University Activities Council (UAC) on Wednesday.

The lanes of Good Times were filled with students, new and returning, taking time to wind down after getting into the swing of the school year. Though the UAC typically schedules on-campus events, the organization wanted to branch out this semester and introduce students to the surrounding areas.

“Obviously, the campus is beautiful, there's a lot of activity and organizations that they can get involved with, but Troy as a whole is beautiful too,” said Anna Marie Penhollow, Troy’s student life and engagement coordinator. “There's a lot of things to do, and we just want to make sure the students know that.”

Hayze Watson, a freshman music industry major from Fort Walton Beach, Florida, said after being introduced to Good Times, he won’t hesitate to return.

“It’s going great, the staff here is lovely; they’re super welcoming,” Watson said. “Great place – I've never been here, but I’ll definitely come back.”

The UAC is also prioritizing students’ wants this semester. In previous semesters, they allowed the students to vote on the activities they want, and they’re leaning into that again this year.

“I like to hear what the students want too; we do a lot of feedback,” Penhollow said. “This was one that students requested too and something that I personally wanted to do, so it really worked out for both of us.”

For the students, not only are their voices being heard, but they’re getting a break from their schoolwork after a couple weeks of consistent classes.

“College is more than just the schoolwork and the stress and stuff, and a lot of students are scared of testing and all the homework they get,” said Kayla Williams, a sophomore social work major from Mobile, Alabama. “It makes college not so boring.

"Honestly, I’d hate to go to a school, and it’s just classes and work and getting stressed out.”

The classwork wasn’t the only thing students were taking a break from. Watson said it was a great chance to take a break from the new responsibilities of life away from his family.

“I think it definitely gives us a little break because we’re all trying to figure out kind of like how to live on our own and do all of the life things, so it just gives us a little chill,” Watson said.

Students also enjoyed free pizza and drinks all night, a break from the financial burdens college may bring.
