Troy University’s Activities Council (UAC) invited students to come out and see “Wicked For Good” on the big screen in Patterson Hall Wednesday Night.
UAC provided snacks, drinks and the chance for students to come out and connect on campus.
“The energy at the movie night was really fun and welcoming,” said Jamie Parker, a junior nursing major student from Millbrook, Alabama, who is UAC’s president. “It felt more like a big group hangout than a formal event, especially with so many Wicked fans in the crowd.”
Students were seen singing along to the music, laughing and just enjoying the experience overall.
“I enjoyed the music in the movie as it made the whole room sing,” said Jordan Frye, a junior electrical and electronics engineering major from Monroeville, Alabama.
The movie was the sequel and ending to the “Wicked” series. Although some students didn’t fully understand the plot with it being the second movie, they seemed to enjoy it nonetheless.
“I honestly enjoyed the movie night, because it was on the big screen,” said Heather Gladwell, a freshman studio art major from Troy, Alabama. “[Its] definitely not your typical movie theater, but it was very reminiscent of it.”
The movie followed the changing friendship between Elphaba and Glinda through songwriting and cinematography as they did what they could for the people and city of Oz.
“My favorite part of the movie was the ending where all of the character destinies come to fruition, especially Glinda and Elphaba’s, because both accept what needs to be done to make Oz a better place for everyone,” Frye said.
UAC plans to have events like this one all year round, ranging from silent discos to trivia nights in hopes that campus connections will help students thrive.
“Events like this help students build friendships, reduce stress and feel more involved on campus,” Parker said. “That sense of belonging is important for student success.”
UAC is continuously working to create events students will enjoy.
For more involvement, students are invited to go to Trojan Center 119 at 5 p.m. on Monday nights. For other information, follow @troyuac on Instagram.
