Troy’s University Activities Council and Freshman Forum put together a Pumpkin Painting event on the main quad last Wednesday night.
Pop music played in the background while students painted their creative ideas on their choice of a pumpkin.
“I painted Hello Kitty because I grew up with Hello Kitty, and she’s my favorite character,” said Taliyah Stenson, a sophomore nursing major from LaGrange, Georgia. “She's just so cute.
“These types of events bring everybody out so they can interact and meet new people because it gets lonely sitting up in the dorm and an apartment when you just need to get out.”
The pumpkin varied in size, and colors ranged from orange to white. A few of the other designs that were painted on the pumpkins included animals, skeletons, ghosts, ocean creatures, spiders, webs and patterns.
“I painted a black cat, and I'm kind of just doing falling leaves around it since I was going for a fall theme,” said Mary Rose Watson, a junior psychology major from Tallahassee, Florida. “We’ve gone to UAC events before, and I’ve enjoyed them.
“I like their ideas, and I think they put on good events.”
Not only was the event for students to get festive for the fall season and holidays, but it was also to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness. Students were encouraged to wear pink for the occasion.
“We just wanted to bring in the fall season and a nice thing to do for us to get outside,” said UAC Activities Coordinator Kamyria Anderson, a junior nursing major from Hoover, Alabama. “We don't do many events on the quad, so I feel like once we do do events on the quad, it's good, big and nice.
“For the organization as a whole, it means a lot when we have a big crowd. The behind the scenes work that we put in, it makes us feel like we'reactually doing something.”
Looking ahead, UAC plans to hold a movie night showing “Sinners” to bring in the Halloween fun.
