Students were given the chance to test their dodgeball skills at Troy University Activities Council’s (UAC) tournament last Wednesday. Several teams signed up to participate in the tournament, but only one could claim the title as the winner.

UAC holds multiple events each semester as a way to get students more involved on campus. The dodgeball tournament, which took place in the Elm Street gym, was a way for students to build connections and teamwork skills.

“Everyone really loves dodgeball,” said Mackenzy Rhea, a UAC member who is a sophomore exercise physiology major from Crestview, Florida. “That was part of the reason we picked it: to see everyone come out and be united in something everyone loves to do.”

Each game was best out of three. If teams won a game, they would move up in the tournament. To participate in the tournament, students had to form their teams by themselves with enough players to be eligible.

Dodgeballs were flying across the gym, and the players were fired up for their games. Even though only one team could be champion, students said they had a fun time.

“If we’re going down, the only way to go is up,” said Lance Harris, a freshman sports management major from Montgomery, Alabama. “We had fun, even though we lost.

“The best thing you can do is support the community and go to events; it’s a great way to make friends.”

UAC’s goal is to bring students together and have them get involved on campus. For many of the members, it’s a love letter to the university.

“UAC is just another way to spread my love for the school and to serve the students,” Rhea said. “Hopefully, everyone leaves feeling like they won.”

UAC has multiple events coming up, including a Taylor Swift DIY night, a neon roller skating event and events involving the greater Troy community. The organization is also going to be collaborating with Downtown Troy for Oktoberfest.

“Hopefully, we can get a lot of students to come to that, but we also have a lot in the works,” said UAC Graphic Design Chair Mallory Morris, a sophomore graphic design major from Hoover, Alabama.
