Students wear nice dresses and suits in the Unity in Bloom formal. While waiting for more guests to arrive, students enjoy refreshments.
Troy University’s Activities Council (UAC) teamed up with Troy 101 E.L.I.T.E. Men, Miss Elite Society and the International Student Services to present the Unity in Bloom formal on Friday, April 18. The formal began at 7:30 p.m. and lasted until 10:30 p.m. Food and drinks were provided throughout the night.
The theme included pastel colors. This free event invited people to come in with their springtime dance attire. For those that did not have the right attire, free dresses were available to borrow before the event began at Hawkins Hall.
“Me and my friends love dressing up and dancing, but we’re not really big on the club scene or anything, so this is a way for us to do this without that kind of energy,” said Haley Duke, a freshman history major from Birmingham, Alabama. “It’s definitely a fun event.
“Everybody seems really happy, and we’re dancing around a lot and enjoying ourselves.”
“I am really enjoying the quality time I am getting with my friends and also an opportunity to get dressed up because I don’t get many of those anymore,” said Kathryn Armstrong, a sophomore psychology major from Headland, Alabama. “I’m usually not very good in big crowds, but I think the atmosphere overall is very good.

Students begin to make their way to the dance floor as the DJ plays music and introduces the next song.
“It’s welcoming, and it gives a good vibe.”
The DJ played a variety of music, causing many attendees to gather on the dance floor. There was also a photo booth for people to create mementos of the evening.
“I really like when it’s good music playing at an event like this,” said Keziah West, a junior exercise science major from Jackson, Alabama. “The people are really nice, and everybody’s just vibing.”
“I think people should come to something like this, so they can know college isn’t just about going to class and going to your dorm,” said 101 E.L.I.T.E. Men’s Student Advisor Derrick Nobles, who is a senior business accounting major from Mobile, Alabama. “It’s about the fun things as well.
“We’re in the spring semester where there are no football games, but there are events on campus that the UAC holds every week. Don’t be scared to get out of your comfort zone, even if you're attending an event by yourself because once you attend by yourself, you meet new people that you may attend the next event with.” For more information about UAC’s upcoming events, follow their Instagram @troyuac.
For those interested in planning events like this, the UAC holds weekly meetings every Monday at 5 p.m. in Trojan Center 118.
