The Veterans Memorial Stadium held a number of students for a night of fast-paced action. Only this time, it was not for a Troy football game.
Troy University’s Activities Council (UAC) managed a movie night, showcasing “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” a movie about two Miami cops embarking on a dangerous mission to clear their late police captain’s name from drug cartel links.
“I had never seen the latest ‘Bad Boys’ movie before, so it was a fun surprise,” said UAC’s Vice President Martina Paderni, who is a junior business marketing major from Bologna, Italy. “I love action movies, but I also really enjoy comedies, and this one was the perfect mix of both.
“We were really happy to see so many people come out. Being at the Vet made the whole experience even better. It’s honestly the perfect atmosphere to watch a movie with your friends or even on a date.”
Attendees were able to pick their own spots to sit on the turf field to get a good view of the large-screen, end zone replay board.
Blankets, towels and chairs were brought by the students for them to sit on. A few faculty and staff members also stopped by to see clips of the movie.
“I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ since it is a classic action-comedy franchise that just keeps getting better,” said Addonia Chambers, a senior resources and technology management major from Pike Road, Alabama. “UAC hosting a movie night near the end of the semester felt like the perfect way to wrap things up.
“UAC always draws a great crowd and creates a strong sense of Trojan Pride. There’s nothing like being on the football field under the lights with the jumbotron playing a movie.”
Throughout the showing of the movie, viewers were able to help themselves to popcorn, chips, treats and drinks served by the organization.
When the movie was over, students were able to take the extra concessions with them on their way out.
“The movie night for ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ went exceptionally well,” said UAC’s Secretary Jamie Parker, who is a sophomore nursing major from Millbrook, Alabama. “The atmosphere was fantastic, and ‘Bad Boys’ was almost a perfect choice to play on the big screen.”
UAC intends to host more movie nights at the stadium moving forward.
“It’s a great opportunity to be outside, have fun and really enjoy the warmer days,” Paderni said. “Plus, it would be cool to show more varieties of films.
“I’d encourage everyone to come out and join. It’s such a fun and chill way to spend time on campus.”
