Troy University’s 101 Elite Men held a Trojan Blacktop Car Social from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Moe’s BBQ parking lot on Sunday.

“It’s a great way to make connections,” said President of the 101 Elite Men Tyshaun Caldwell, who is a sophomore social work major from Pell City, Alabama. “Whether it’s making friends or future employers, it’s getting out, having fun and being social.”

The event came to a slow start, as it relied on the will of college students to be on time. However, by 7 p.m., the lot was filled with cars and music began to play from their speakers.

“It didn’t turn out as expected, but there’s still people here, and I enjoy that,” said Cory Wise, a senior exercise science major from Enterprise, Alabama. “I really just wanted to have something like this here in Troy because you don’t really see it here or too often.

“I enjoy seeing how people come out, see the different cars and see that there are people here that enjoy the same things. I feel like the more that we do it, the more it is spread around, I would definitely come back to an event like this and see more.”

A large variety of vehicles were there, including a sleek grey Mustang. Another notable car was a Dodge Charger in a saturated blue with pink detailing on the front bumper. A bright yellow Dodge Charger with black stripes was wrapped in a custom theme for the Marvel character Venom.

“It’s a good meet; there are some fun people and good-looking cars,” said Logan Riemens-Van Laare, a junior cybersecurity major from Ozark, Alabama, who came to the event in his metallic teal Mazda MX-5 Miata RF. “Usually everything is out in Enterprise and Dothan, and coming to Troy, I obviously wanted a closer meet.

“It’s been a pretty good experience. I always love coming and meeting like-minded people and cool cars. I can see what they’re doing and maybe take some inspiration. There’s good weather too; it’s nice and cool.”
