Sips introduces book club

Sips Beer Garden and Food Court has introduced a new activity for those who enjoy good books and drinks with their Books and Brews book club.

Sips is located in Downtown Troy at 115 Hanchey St. and features dozens of beers on tap, rotating food trucks and live music, a popular spot for locals and students alike.

Sips Owner Hailey Finger shared how the club came to be.

“Sips has consistently sought to introduce new ideas and events that bring the community together,” Finger said. “This idea is hopeful for bringing new community members to Sips Beer Garden and fostering even more relationships and ideas along the way.”

Books and Brews is open to anyone, and Finger shared that community interest has already been high. Currently, the club is reading “Hemlock” by Kiersten Modglin, a romantic psychological thriller.

Finger discussed how the book was selected.

“After some friends of Sips collected votes throughout the community, we were able to narrow down to two genres for our first club meeting, thriller and general fiction,” Finger said. “The Books and Brews group then voted on which book out of those genres they wanted to read.

“We are sure that after the first successful club discussion, there will be an opportunity for new genres and themes to come about.”

Finger also shared her excitement and future goals for the club.

“We are excited to share the Sips experience, including yummy food and drinks, with our community,” Finger said. “We hope this club can continue to grow and become a fun event to offer at Sips.”

Member of Books and Brews Jesse Kelley shared a similar excitement.

“I’m so excited to have the opportunity to build community over our shared love of reading,” Kelley said. “I can’t wait to read some things I wouldn’t normally read, and I’m excited to meet new people and thrilled to have another fun reason to visit Sips.”

The club plans to meet every other month with their first meeting set for Sept. 1 at 6 p.m.
