Senior Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs retires, Chancellor expresses gratitude

Senior Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Sohail Agboatwala is retiring from Troy University after over 30 years of service.
On Thursday, Troy University announced that Agboatwala will be retiring from the university on Sept. 30. Agboatwala has been in leadership roles throughout the university for more than three decades, including being associate vice chancellor for student financial services, associate vice chancellor of business services and associate vice chancellor of international operations, among others.
Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. expressed his gratitude for Agboatwala’s loyalty to the university.
“Talented, loyal and with a strong work ethic, Sohail is a valued friend and colleague,” Hawkins said. “His leadership will be missed.
“I wish him every success in this next chapter, and I know he will remain an active member of the Troy family.”
When Agboatwala retires, overseeing duties for departments within Student Affairs will temporarily be transferred to Interim Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Judson Edwards and Senior ViceChancellor for Finance and Administration Dr. Jim Bookout.
Dr. Edwards will oversee enrollment management, marketing and communications, international student services, student counseling, the student health center, student involvement and student services.
Dr. Bookout will oversee residence halls, transportation, the Trojan Fitness Center and university police.
Agboatwala started his time in Troy as an international student from India in 1988, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics and business administration, respectively. Shortly after, Agboatwala started working for the university in the athletics department and eventually expanded into roles in administration through Dr. Hawkins’ request.
“I was having too much fun, but I did see this as an opportunity to correct what we complained about,” Agboatwala said in a video posted to the “Go to Troy University” YouTube channel.
Overall, Agboatwala expressed that he’s glad he could serve Troy students throughout his tenure.
“What I will miss most is the opportunity to interact each day with our incredible students,” Agboatwala said. “It has been a great honor to serve them and this institution.”
Dr. Hawkins talked about the transition as well, mentioning the importance of his successor to be able to construct Troy’s senior leadership team.
“I am grateful to Dr. Edwards and Dr. Bookout for stepping forward during this period of transition,” Hawkins said. “These units have strong leaders already in place and are well positioned to continue serving our students and the University.”
