Senior Farewells: Aubrey Morrow

It’s true what they say about time: it only gets faster. I never used to believe my family members and mentors who told me time flies even quicker once you graduate high school and get into college. Yet, here I am, about to graduate in less than a month, when it feels like I’ve only just adjusted to college life completely.

Readers, to many of you, my name may not be familiar. I regret that I’ve never actually written an article before, but I’ve read nearly every one to grace the pages of The Tropolitan over the last year and a half (except the sports stories. . . I simply don’t understand or have much interest in sports, which I realize is a hot take).

Over, my last few semesters at Troy University, I’ve had the honor of serving as copy editor for our newspaper, and I’m grateful to have had this opportunity and experience.

As my time in college comes to an end, I’d like to thank several important and influential people in my life.

First, thank you to Dr. Hanna Cooper for encouraging me to apply for this position in the first place. You made me feel more confident in my grammatical abilities, and serving as copy editor gave me a reason to appreciate and use my unusual interest in the nitty-gritty details of writing. Thank you, also, for understanding my busy schedule and allowing me to work with The Tropolitan anyway.

Second, thank you to Dr. Ava Tabb. Your Technologies in Journalism course was what got me interested in pursuing journalism further. I now enjoy using Adobe software in my free time for various personal projects, and I wouldn’t have met Dr. Cooper or Dr. Stefanie East if not for the wonderful experience I had in this course as a freshman. I also am grateful for your constant encouragement and kindness.

Thank you, as well, to Dr. East. Without you giving of your time this past summer to teach me in an independent study course, I wouldn’t be about to graduate just yet! I’ll forever be grateful for your willingness to help me out in this way, so that I could continue playing oboe in the Symphony Band one more semester, without a scheduling conflict.

I also want to give brief shoutouts to Professor Tara Morelock, Dr. Charla Brown, Mrs. Rebecca Money-Normans, Dr. Jillian Camwell, Dr. Mark Walker and Brad Bensinger. Each of you have made a big impact on my life in some way while I’ve been at this university, and I’m grateful for the support, encouragement and memories I have with all of you.

Furthermore, thank you to my family and friends for being my constant encouragers, reassurers and prayer warriors. God knows I wouldn’t be where I am today without you all.

Finally, I thank God for answering so many of my prayers through my time at Troy University. These last three and a half years turned out so much better than I expected all because of your gracious provision and patient guidance!

Once, I was a girl afraid to ever stay a night away from home; now, I’m nearly a graduate, not quite ready to leave the school I’ve come to love.

I’ll forever cherish the memories I have from SOTS, Symphony Band, and the BCM, as well as the experiences and connections I’ve gained from tutoring in the learning center and editing for The Tropolitan.

There’s so much more I could say, but I guess, as my mom often says, “less is more.” I’m excited to see what God has in store for all of us in the future, and I thank you all for the positive impacts you’ve made on my life!

God bless and Go Trojans!
