POPulus to play at Singing River Live
Troy University’s POPulus band will take the stage at Singing River Live in Florence, Alabama, on Oct. 15.
The performance will begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. The event will bring Troy students and other attendees together for an evening of live music and community.
“I believe what this event means to the band is bringing people together and enjoying not only music, but enjoying each other’s time together,” said Tyler Johnson, a graduate student studying music industry from Luverne, Alabama, and graduate assistant for POPulus.
The band’s connection to the university goes beyond the music it performs.
The band serves as the university’s popular music performance and production ensemble. The group performs a variety of genres, including rock, pop, R&B, country and hip-hop, while focusing on original music and live performances.
The group also gives students hands-on experience with areas of the music industry, including touring, recording, audio engineering and music production.
POPulus has continued to focus on creating a welcoming environment through its performances.
“To me, the band means a lot to the university when it comes to community,” Johnson said. “We strive to bring jubilant energy wherever we go, and we work to create a welcoming space for everyone.”
The event will also serve as a celebration of new music from POPulus. Regional artists Chance Stanley and Doves for Peace will also perform during the festival, giving attendees the chance to hear new music alongside performances from other artists.
Troy students can attend the performance for free by presenting a valid student ID. Tickets for other attendees are $10 online and $15 at the door.
