With everything going on in the news nowadays, it is seemingly difficult to keep track of what is going on in the Middle East. According to www.bbcnews.com, America and Israel launched an attack on Iran. Why did they do this, and is it a good thing?
According to state.gov, Secretary of State, Marco Rubio explained the whole point of attacking Iran was to make sure they could not build a nuclear weapon. As soon as the attack happened though, Americans felt the effects. According to nytimes.com, gas prices rose to approximately over $3 a gallon, while oil prices shot up to over $120 a barrel. Is this really worth the conflict?
According to militarytimes.com, Iran plotted to assassinate President Trump in 2024. That being said, we are attacking and trying to limit the nuclear capability of a country that tried to assassinate our President. These attacks are 100% justified in my eyes. If we have to continue to pay higher prices so that Iran doesn’t have access to nuclear weapons, sign me up.
Prices are steadily dropping. According to nbcnews.com, President Trump ordered an American blockade at the Strait of Hormuz on Apr. 14, 2026, which is a passageway in the Persian that Gulf 20% of the world's oil and natural gas gets imported and exported. By doing this, countries can’t receive oil from the Middle East, and in turn must buy American oil. This made the prices of oil and gas go down in the United States. Prices of oil were right at about $68 a barrel the day before the attacks and according to oilprice.com, as of Apr. 20th, 2026, that price is now down to $84 per barrel.
Our president has also repeatedly said prices will plummet when this war is over. Do not get distracted by everything on the news; this military operation needs to be done and will help make America a global superpower when it comes to energy. We need to hope a peace deal gets signed soon, so that people stop dying and peace in the Middle East is restored.
