Holiday market brings Christmas early to Trojans

Downtown Troy held its annual Troy Holiday Market, where vendors across the area interacted with the community while selling their products in the downtown square.

Entrepreneurs marketed their goods and services, which ranged from jewelry to sweet treats, intricate artwork and hand-crafted pieces. Children admired the goods from their parents’ sides while Santa Claus walked between the tables, spreading cheer.

Paula McDaniel is from Josie, Alabama. She owns a small business called Gigi’s Bows and Things that sells handmade hairbows, door hangers and wreaths for Christmas and other occasions.

“Overall I did pretty well with my hairbows,” McDaniel said. “This was my first time being at the market, it’s a new adventure for me.

Anna Mitchell of Anna Mitchell Fine Art is from Birmingham, Alabama, and is a 2024 Troy alumna. Mitchell and her husband now reside in Troy together.

“I feel great; so far it has been a really fun day,” Mitchell said. “Lots of people have come out and it’s really been fun meeting new people and just talking.

“I love these events. They’re really fun.”

Mitchell does oriental painting, watercolor paintings, featuring landscapes and nature. Michell also does custom commission paintings.

Students said they enjoyed attending the event.

“Today has been super fun,” said Avery King, a senior psychology major from Suwanee, Georgia. “This is my first time at the Troy Market.

“It’s just so good to come out and hang out with friends and family.”
