Troy’s History Club held a trivia night to raise money for a local veterans’ charity last Wednesday. Students were asked to bring a donation, either via CashApp, Venmo or cash.
The winner of the trivia for the night would then have the pool of money donated in their name to the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization.

Students play a few rounds of Kahoot for trivia.
“We wanted to do something special for Veteran’s Day,” said Keira Tessalone, a junior European history major from Dothan, Alabama, who is also vice president of the history club and a member of ROTC. “The VFW in Brundidge does a lot for the community.
“We wanted to support somewhere local.”
“We wanted to do something in honor of Veteran’s Day,” said Carmen Cruz, a sophomore history major from Madison, Alabama, who serves as treasurer for the club. “Locally, there have been a lot of issues, especially with the government shutdown.
“They’ve lost a lot of access to resources, so we wanted to do our part.”
The trivia questions were about different wars, including the Civil War and both World Wars. Four different Kahoot games were played throughout the night. Matilda Ziegler, the club president, was the winner of the trivia night, and the donation was made in her name.
History Club is an on-campus organization that holds weekly meetings ranging from academic discussions to fun, laid-back gatherings, including a Friendsgiving night to wrap up the semester.
“We usually do PowerPoint nights discussing various topics,” said Mark Carroll, a senior history major from Monroeville, Alabama. “Earlier this semester, we’ve talked about genocides that aren’t talked about enough.
“We’ve talked about monarchies throughout Europe, and things like that.”
“We are just a conglomeration of mostly history majors and other majors,” Tessalone said.
“We come together for a mixture of academic meetings and fun meetings.
“This is one of our fun meetings tonight, but we also do round-table discussions where we do different presentations.”
“My favorite thing about history club is being around people,” Carroll said. “It’s just a great way to get to know people outside of class.”
History Club is open to any and all students.
“You don’t have to be a history major to join us,” Carroll said. “Most of us are currently getting beat by people who are majoring in accounting.
“All are welcome to join.”
History Club meets every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. in Patterson 202. To stay updated about events with the club, follow @troyhistoryclub on Instagram.
