History Club partnered with Political Science Club to hold a “Jeopardy!” night in Patterson 202 last Wednesday. The night consisted of snacks, two rounds of Jeopardy, and attendees were split into two teams.
The first round was focused on history and included fun topics such as “Hamilton” songs. The second round, played as double jeopardy, focused more on political science-based topics.
“This is one of our more relaxed meetings in History Club,” said Carmen Cruz, a sophomore history major from Madison, Alabama, who serves as the History Club’s treasurer. “It’s just something that’s history-related, but also fun.”
The History Club has meetings and events throughout the year. The club is known to hold round-table discussions as well as election and debate watch parties.
“I enjoy the community we’ve created here,” said Haley Duke, a sophomore European history major from Birmingham, Alabama. “We bounce off each other.
“We do study groups. It’s very much like a friend group of people who are interested in general topics, but also different things, so we see things from different perspectives.”
The organization does about a 50-50split of fun and academic events throughout the semester.
“I think [the events] are beneficial, first of all, in a social context,” Cruz said. “I think it’s good to get people outside of their dorms, but I think also just creating a place where we can have conversation about historical events and stuff like that is good.”
Political Science Club also partners with other organizations for events as well, such as Model UN, to put on similar events to that of the History Club.
“We do watch parties of things like presidential debates or VP debates, when it’s in-season for that,” said Judson Keel, a senior political science major from Alexander City, Alabama. “We also do movie watch parties at some points.
“It’s a good way to socialize with your peers.”
Troy History Club meets in Patterson 202 at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday. Political Science Club has an email list and posters throughout Patterson indicating events and meetings. Neither club takes attendance nor has dues.
