A friendly dodgeball competition was held between fraternities and sororities as part of Greek Week in which all the fraternities and sororities on campus participate in competitions to earn points.
“All the fraternities and sororities from Panhellenic, IFC and NPHC come together to make different teams in order to win the Greek Week cup,” said Camryn Easterling, a senior global business major with a concentration in marketing from Deatsville, Alabama, and a member of Kappa Delta. “We all get together to have fun through games and competitions.”
In the middle of Greek Week, the dodgeball competition was held, tournament-style, with five teams where winners played winners, and losers played losers.
Dodgeball was an event that a lot of people enjoyed.
“I love dodgeball,” Easterling said. “It’s probably one of my personal favorite events because it’s just fun.
“It’s recreation, but it’s all friendly having everyone come together.”
At the end of the day, Team 2, which consisted of Alpha Gamma Delta, Sigma Chi, Delta Kappa Epsilon and Omega Psi Phi, won the dodgeball competition.
Greek Week offers a space for people of all kinds of backgrounds to come together and connect with one another.
Last year, the organizations did ladder drills and quarter wars. This year, they went a different route with dodgeball and ultimate frisbee. “I’ve made a lot of great connections that I can use after Greek Week,” said Isaiah Thomas, a junior global business major with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from Ozark, Alabama, and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. “Greek Week is when Panhellenic and Non-Panhellenic organizations collaborate and make connections with one another.
“It’s definitely hard work, but it’s rewarding. I’ve been able to grow as an individual in my fraternity.”
“I met a lot of my best friends in my sorority,” Easterling said. “You get to do events and give back to your community with these people that are beside you through thick and thin.”
