The Troy University Art Club is making their way to students’ wallets through their stomachs to raise funds.

Members of the club sold homemade treats in the Trojan Center, giving students a chance to support the organization while getting something in return.

Helix Kisner, a senior interdisciplinary studies major from Prattville, Alabama, and the club’s secretary, said the fundraiser was organized to help cover the costs of giving members opportunities to explore different forms of art.

“We made a bunch of baked goods to fundraise for all the art workshops and events we want to do because art is expensive, and we want to be able to provide opportunities for our members to explore new mediums,” Kisner said. “We want to do a ceramics workshop and a print making field trip, but the opportunities we get depend on the funds that we raise.”

The club’s officers contributed several of the baked goods, including muffins made by Kisner.

“Baking is a form of art. These baked goods are really gorgeous,” Kisner said. A bunch of our officers made several things on this table. I personally made the muffins.”

For students passing through the Trojan Center, the fundraiser offered an easy way to support a campus organization while purchasing a treat.

“I bought two banana bread muffins; they were pretty good, and I’m always happy to support something on campus,” said Rhodes Baker, a sophomore risk management and insurance major from Troy, Alabama.

Slayde Poole, a freshman accounting major from Destin, Florida, said the fundraiser also gave the Art Club a way to attract students through an activity that reflected the organization’s creative focus.

“Not enough organizations do baked goods, sweet goods, and setting up in TC is a great way to reach a lot of students,” Poole said. “People don't exactly like to just donate and not get anything in return, but this will catch students' eyes.

"The art club already does a lot of creative things, so it's great they’re doing something in their nature of being creative.”

Funds from the bake sale will help determine which workshops, field trips and other opportunities the Art Club can offer its members throughout the year.
