A vision of the future

With the new year well underway, many students have created new goals that they want to meet within the year. The Vision Board Party, sponsored by the Nu Theta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, allowed students to create a physical reminder of those goals by creating their own vision boards. 

“We’re going to create vision boards explaining what you want to do and your goals for 2023, your aspirations,” said Samaria Early, the Physical and Mental Health Chair for Nu Theta. 

Nu Theta is the Troy chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., a national Pan-Hellenic Council Organization. The DST Sorority developed the 5-Point Programmatic Thrusts: Economic Development, Educational Development, Physical and Mental Health, International Awareness and Involvement, and Political Awareness and Involvement.

“It’s basically our organization’s philanthropy,” said Amber Jackson, the Second Vice President of the Nu Theta chapter. “Basically, we have five thrusts we work under, and with every event we have we try to make sure the event touches the thrust. So, with this event, it’s physical and mental health."

Those who came to the Vision Board Party were paired up with other students they did not know to work on their boards together. Students had a choice to create either a physical vision board on a poster using magazine pictures and newspaper cutouts, or a digital vision board on their computer. 

The goal of the party was for students to meet new people, share their goals for 2023, and make connections they otherwise would never have made. 

“I really just wanted to know the members more and to expand my knowledge on the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated,” said Kaylee Rankins, a freshman criminal justice major from Monroeville, Alabama.
